Lecture from
The School Master

In all you do, every thought, every word, every action, ask yourself if the choice you make is founded in ego, vanity or pride. These are the three very subtle enemies that blind us to truth, and attach us to perceived misery. They will lay the foundation of self destruction, we lay waste to our own lives pursuing their vain fulfillment.
So in every moment, with righteous indignation, demand truth of yourself, remaining ever vigilant against these three weaknesses, and when we are wrong, own our choices, do not allow ego vanity or pride to pursuade us to blame anyone else.
And finally, always come from a place of love, and you will find the wisdom to know truth by the peace it brings.

What is
The Entelechy Project

en-tel-e-chy

NOUN:
pl.en-tel-e-chies
  1. In the philosophy of Aristotle, the condition of a thing whose essence is fully realized; actuality.
  2. In some philosophical systems, a vital force that directs an organism toward self-fulfillment.
ETYMOLOGY:
Late Latin entelecha, from Greek entelekheia : entel s, complete ( en-, in; see en-2 + telos, completion; see kwel- 1 in Indo-European roots) + ekhein, to have; see segh- in Indo-European roots

What began as pure light at the moment of creation, now in a universe as old as time, looks out upon the stars, and the splendor of creation, realizing that the entire universe, and all the time that has ever passed, have conspired to create this moment, and our eyes to observe it.
What is the greater miracle, chance evolution or divine guidance? Our existence is in either case a great miracle, to be cherished and celebrated. Life itself is the holy grail of our universe, and is sacred.
From the gentle drops of rain, rendering their delicate dance of life upon the blade of grass, to you and I looking out upon the universe and realizing that it invented us, and we are it. Remember to recognize the fire of creation and the miracle of existence happening all around us in this living breathing universe, and strive to be happy in our moment.
This page was conceived in the spirit of our shared pursuit of truth and peace, and greater understanding of the meaning of life, and our place in the universe.
With all my hopes, and the belief that in the fullness of time, humanity will emerge as the enlightened beings we have always been destined to become, welcome to The Entelechy Project

About Love

Maybe God wants us to meet a few wrong people before meeting the right one so that when we finally meet the right person, we will know how to be grateful for that gift.

When the door of happiness closes, another opens, but often times we look so long at the closed door that we don't see the one which has been opened for us.

The best kind of friend is the kind of friend you can sit on a porch and swing with, never say a word, and then walk away feeling like it was the best conversation you've ever had.

It's true that we don't know what we've got until we lose it, but it's also true that we don't know what we've been missing until it arrives.

Giving someone all your love is never an assurance that they'll love you back. Don't expect love in return; just wait for it to grow in their heart but if it doesn't, be content it grew in yours.

It takes only a minute to get a crush on someone, an hour to like someone, and a day to love someone, but it takes a lifetime to forget someone.

Don't go for looks; they can deceive. Don't go for wealth; even that fades away. Go for someone who makes you smile because it takes only a smile to make a dark day seem bright. Find the one that makes your heart smile.

There are moments in life when you miss someone so much that you just want to pick them from your dreams and hug them for real.

Dream what you want to dream; go where you want to go; be what you want to be, because you have only one life and one chance to do all the things you want to do.

May you have enough happiness to make you sweet, enough trials to make you strong, enough sorrow to keep you human, and enough hope to make you happy.

Always put yourself in others; shoes. I f you feel that it hurts you, it probably hurts the other person, too.

The happiest of people don't necessarily have the best of everything; they just make the most of everything that comes along their way.

Happiness lies for those who cry, those who hurt, those who have searched, and those who have tried, for only they can appreciate the people who have touched their lives.

Love begins with a smile, grows with a kiss, and ends with a tear. The brightest future will always be based upon a forgotten past, you can't go on well in life until you let go of your past failures and heartches.

Desiderata
words to live by ..

Go placidly amid the noise and haste and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible without surrender be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others; even the dull and ignorant; they too have their story. Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexatious to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain and bitter; for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself. Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.

Keep interested in your own career however humble; it is a real posession in the changing fortunes of time. Exercise caution in your business affairs; for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals; and everywhere life is full of heroism. Be yourself. Especially, do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment it is perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth. Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness. Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself.

You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should. Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be, and whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul. With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful. Strive to be happy

Dedication Prayer
by Shantideva

May all beings everywhere Plagued by sufferings of body and mind Obtain an ocean of happiness and joy By virtue of my merits.

May no living creature suffer, Commit evil, or ever fall ill; May no one be afraid or belittled With a mind weighed down by depression.

May the blind see forms And may the deaf hear sounds; May those whose bodies are worn with toil Be restored on finding repose.

May the naked find clothing, The hungry find food; May the thirsty find water And delicious drinks.

May the poor find wealth, Those weak with sorrow find joy. May the forlorn find hope, Constant happiness and prosperity.

May there be timely rains And bountiful harvests; May all medicines be effective And all wholesome prayers bear fruit.

May all who are sick and ill Quickly be freed from their ailments; Whatever diseases there are in the world, May they never occur again.

May the frightened cease to be afraid, And those bound be freed. May the powerless find power, Any may people think of benefitting each other.

For as long as space endures, And for as long as living beings remain, Until then may I too abide To dispel the misery of the world.

The Spiritual Path

What Is The Spiritual Path?
By: Saleem Rana

For many years of my life, I thought the spiritual path had something to do with following one of the major world religions or pursuing an Eastern practice. I even thought it had something to do with morality and ethics.

Today my comprehension of the spiritual path has changed completely. Instead of the complexity of any of the disciplines to becoming a good person, I have found that the path is simple. In fact, some of the greatest atheists have followed it better than many theists. An example that comes to mind is the famous British Philosopher Bertrand Russell, who lived an impeccable life of wisdom, compassion, and grace..

'Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.' That is the spiritual path. Everything else--all the theology, philosophy, and practices--lead you to that singular ideal.

Physically, do you like to be murdered, wounded, beaten, or raped' Emotionally, do you like to be humiliated, disenfranchised, betrayed, abandoned, disrespected, alienated, and cast aside' Mentally, do you like to be cheated, swindled, lied to, vilified or misinformed'

Of course not. In fact, your whole body just cringes at the thought of such mishap.

Yet, this is what we do to others. If we are truly savage, we abuse others physically. If a little more sophisticated, we abuse others mentally and emotionally.

And in this process we abuse ourselves.

In actuality, there is no enemy, for we are all connected at the collective unconscious, and the misperception that 'they' are different from 'us' has been the historical cause of most human suffering. Often this abuse is perpetuated from the collective rules referred to as ethics and morality. What is ethical and moral is defined by who is making up the rules.

Yet the bell that tolls for another, also tolls for thee.

Why do we act in a way that injures others'

It is because we feel a deep void inside of us and we lash out like a wounded animal. We relate to the world from the wounds of apathy, grief, fear, lust, anger, and pride. By striking out, however, we only deepen our own anguish. Although we are only trying to survive, we achieve only more peril.

A spiritual person, however, comes from a completely different perspective. He or she is motivated by feelings of courage, acceptance, and peace.

What does the spiritual path have to do with good psychology' Everything. A sound mind in a sound body.

Can the spiritual path be defined in an even simpler way' Yes. It can be defined as love.

When you love, love, love--you'll be happy, healthy, wealthy, and wise.

The opposite of grief, misery, and unending travail is the spiritual path. While many disciplines may lead to it, the heart will show you the way. Once we shed our habitual narcissism, then the way to courage, acceptance, and peace becomes possible.

The Angry Young Man

Since he was a very young boy, he had tried to believe in, and serve, the God of his fathers. He had embraced the promises made by those who procelytized their gospel, only to find disappointment and sorrow as he became increasingly aware of the suffering in the world.

Finally, an angry young man raged defiantly at his God, telling him that he had no right to judge humanity, unless he came and lived a normal life as a human being, and that Jesus didnt count because he knew he was God.

He told his God that he couldnt judge any of us until he lived a life like us, not knowing he is God, that only then could he know the true confusion and uncertainty known by every other human.

And his God whispered back to him, " I did, and, I am you."

About Life

The only truth a man can trust, is that which he teaches himself, and only after conquering himself through a journey of brutal self honesty can he see beyond the layers of vanity that blind him. Therefore lead a man not to truth, lead him only to know himself, and he will find his truth on his own. ~ Andrew Brown

It is better to conquer yourself than to win a thousand battles. Then the victory is yours. It cannot be taken from you, not by angels or by demons, heaven or hell. ~ Shakyamuni Buddha (563-483 B.C.)

The mystic, does not see *more* than the cynic; he sees less. What is subtracted is what is self-involved. With that crucial subtraction, the world and all it contains becomes vivid and marvelous and moving.

You are not the body. Your body is not You. You are not the mind. You are free of its turmoil. You are the Endless Sea in whom worlds rise and fall as naturally as waves. You are Awareness Itself. Forever Free. ~ Ashtavakra Gita 15

The terror of a world without sacredness is the greatest terror. The meditator remembers that life itself is sacred; the cynic forgets this.

Better indeed is knowledge than mechanical practice (of religious ritual). Better than knowledge is meditation. But better still is surrender of attachment to results (of one's actions), because there follows immediate peace. Bhagavad Gita 12:12

All sorrow comes from fear, from nothing else. When you Know this, you become free of both sorrow and fear and desire melts away. You become happy and still. ~ Ashtavakra Gita 11: 5

The world with all its wonders is nothing. When you Know this, desire melts away for you are then Awareness itself. When you Know in your heart that there is nothing, you are naturally & happily still. ~ Ashtavakra Gita 11: 8

The Truth
in the Moment

Once upon a time there was a conquering army going through villages, killing and pillaging as it went. The soldiers caused terror in the hearts of the people in the countryside and were especially harsh with the monks they found in the monasteries, not only humiliating them but often subjecting them to terriible physical torture.

There was one particularly harsh army captain who was infamous for his cruelty and when he arrived in a certain town he asked his adjutant for a report about the people who lived there. His inferior reported "All the people are very frightened and are bowing down to you". This gave the captain great pleasure of course. Then the adjutant continued "In the local monastery all the monks have fled to the mountains in terror. Except for one monk. "

Hearing this the captain became furious and rushed to the monastery in search of the monk who dared to defy him. When he pushed open the gates, there in the middle of the courtyard stood the monk, watching him without fear. The captain walked up to him and asked in the haughtiest voice, "Don't you know who I am? Why, I could take my sword and run it through your belly without blinking an eye!"

"And don't you know who I am?" replied the monk, gently. "I could have your sword run through my belly without blinking an eye." It is said that the captain, recognizing the greater truth of the moment, sheathed his sword, bowed and left.

So Pay Attention

Have you ever in your quest to be more and do more, experienced the feeling that you were going backward' We all seem to be over-stretching ourselves. I am always saying, 'I never thought life would be this busy'. Could all this busyness actually prevent us or be creating blocks in our lives to what we are truly seeking' Could we actually start slowing down and asking ourselves different questions that would end up creating a more profound awareness in our lives' Can this hectic life with so many distractions keep us from a life where we are in appreciation of each and every moment of our day'

We live in a world with so many expectations and so much to accomplish. The financial well being, relationships that work, looking good and to be everything society wants us to be. All these burdens and expectations are like trying to push a bowling ball up a hill. Can we actually be causing damage to our well being, to the physical mind and body and in turn slowing the real growth we seek here on this planet' Does this damage that we have possibly caused need to be healed and will we slow down enough to heal ourselves'

We pursue all these things to create a place of wholeness. We seek a life that is complete and whole and dream of enjoying all that life has to offer. But do we ever get to the place of peace, calmness, and serenity and do we ever find the love for our lives.

When will we start to recognize that this is not working' And that we just keep doing more but the wholeness of our lives is just a big hole. Well there is hope. When we start to recognize what is going on and pay attention, we can take steps in creating and changing our lives to make a difference.

When we recognize that we need to be responsible for our own life and that we are the ones who ultimately create our reality we can actually break through all the expectations others have put on us and take the time to enjoy the moment. I'm not saying that we just sit around and do nothing. The point that I am making is that we are so busy that we are never where we are in that moment. We are doing one task and thinking about the next task. We never take the time to be in the moment and enjoy the moment for just that. We are in our cars, talking on the phone and thinking about the meeting we have later that day. We pick up a friend from the airport or we are at lunch with our mothers and we just have to answer that call from a friend who just wants to chit chat. When does it all slow down. When do we just be with someone or something' Like taking the time to read a book, or just sitting there and listening to your child, without all the noise going on in your head of what you have to do next' How about just being' Breathing and being in that moment from time to time and just enjoying it. A good friend of mine would sometimes take a Friday afternoon off from work or her chores and just be with the day. Enjoying the sunshine and feeling the warmth of the sun as it kisses her long flowing hair. Do you ever slow down and listening to the birds sing, or watching a humming bird hover like a helicopter as it pecks at a bougainvillea. Do you still feel the coolness and that little tickle of the grass on your feet or are you just traversing this planet in pursuit of something you just can't get your hands around' Try breathing in and out slowly and feel the air move through your body. Do it now! Appreciate this moment and be in gratitude for this moment. Yes, you can tend to your busy life later, but from time to time just stop and just be. Be open to seeing and feeling what is going on around you and really appreciation the moment for whatever it offers. Let the world take care of itself for a while. You don't have to always fix everything.

As you get good at being in the moment you will learn how to do this even when you are busy. You can take on tasks and just be in that task. You can actually enjoy the task and do it so well that you don't even realize how quickly time has past and how efficient you were in accomplishing and enjoying that task. You can talk to someone and actually hear what they mean, not just what they are saying. So pay attention to the moment for this moment will never appear again. Every moment is a precious gift and the decisions and things we do in every moment create our reality. Please enjoy this moment and every moment of your life.

On a Lighter Note

1. A vulture boards an airplane, carrying two dead raccoons. The stewardess looks at him and says, "I'm sorry, sir, only one carrion allowed per passenger."

2. Two fish swim into a concrete wall. The one turns to the other and says "Dam!"

3. Two Eskimos sitting in a kayak were chilly, so they lit a fire in the craft. Unsurprisingly it sank, proving once again that you can't have your kayak and heat it too.

4. Two hydrogen atoms meet. One says "I've lost my electron." The other says "Are you sure?" The first replies "I'm positive."

5. Did you hear about the Buddhist who refused Novocain during a root canal? His goal: transcend dental medication.

6. A group of chess enthusiasts checked into a hotel and were standing in the lobby discussing their recent tournament victories. After about an hour, the manager came out of the office and asked them to disperse. "But why?", they asked, as they moved off. "Because," he said, " I can't stand chess-nuts boasting in an open foyer."

7. A woman has twins and gives them up for adoption. One of them goes to a family in Egypt and is named "Ahmal." The other goes to a family in Spain; they name him "Juan." Years later, Juan sends a picture of himself to his birth mother. Upon receiving the picture, she tells her husband that she wishes she also had a picture of Ahmal. Her husband responds, "They're twins! If you've seen Juan, you've seen Ahmal."

8. These friars were behind on their belfry payments, so they opened up a small florist shop to raise funds. Since everyone liked to buy flowers from the men of God, a rival florist across town thought the competition was unfair. He asked the good fathers to close down, but they would not. He went back and begged the friars to close. They ignored him. So the rival florist hired Hugh MacTaggart, the roughest and most vicious thug in town to "persuade" them to close. Hugh beat up the friars and trashed their store, saying he'd be back if they didn't close up shop. Terrified, they did so --- thereby proving that only Hugh can prevent florist friars.

9. Mahatma Gandhi, as you know, walked barefoot most of the time, which produced an impressive set of calluses on his feet. He also ate very little, which made him rather frail and with his odd diet, he suffered from bad breath. This made him ...(Oh, man, this is so bad it's good)..... A super-calloused fragile mystic hexed by halitosis.

10. And finally, there was the scurvy knave who sent ten different puns to friends, with the hope that at least one of the puns would make them laugh. No pun in ten did. . . .

And Finally
...to your Prosperity

Winning the lottery will not bring happiness, peace of mind, or enlightenment, but what the heck, live as abundantly as you can dream...
